A Quick Weekend Trip to Ann Arbor, Michigan – Part II.
Last week I shared Part I of our weekend trip in Ann Arbor, and today I’m sharing about our Sunday together. After checking out of the hotel, we headed to RoosRoast again. I had been telling Ryan about the cafe and my experience the previous day, and wanted to go back for another tasty honey vanilla latte. We weren’t sure where to go for breakfast, and asked the baristas where the best spot to go would be. They directed us to Benny’s Family Dining, and we are so happy they did! When we arrived, we were seated right away and after ordering, our breakfast came quickly. The food was fantastic, just look at those pancakes! If you are ever in the area, we highly recommend making a stop at Benny’s.
After our bellies were filled, we made our way downtown, stopping to see Michigan Stadium, “The Big House”, first – especially with it being Super Bowl weekend. The stadium is incredible. It’s massive and the gates to enter so beautiful. If you are wanting to visit and go inside the gates, you’ll need to book a tour. You can find information on this here. After taking some selfies out front ;), we wandered around the downtown core.
Being a knitter, I’m always on the hunt for a good yarn shop, and Spun was recommended by some local knitters I spoke to the previous day. If the exchange rate wasn’t so bad, I probably would of come home with multiple sweaters worth of yarn. The shop was organized well and they had lots of great sample knits on display, including the Tambourine cardigan, I was working on at the time (which has now been completed, you can see some finished pictures here!). It was great to see the completed sweater in person and I was able to show Ryan what it will look like at the end.
The downtown core of Ann Arbor is full of cute shops with artwork, comics, gourmet foods, and other specialty items. We were more curious and excited about all the local Brew Pubs! And since we were still full from Benny’s, we decided to pop in for only a drink. Blue Tractor Brewery lured us in with the smell of delicious BBQ, so while enjoying a flight, we ordered their biscuits to go. A very good decision for the drive home!
After walking around downtown, we decided to hit up Trader Joe’s. While we were in Orlando, we picked up some cookie butter – needless to say, we picked up more cookie butter because it’s so delicious and yummy and we just had to stock up and get a few to bring back for friends :). The great thing about Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods in the US, is their craft beer selection. We picked up a huge variety of different beers to try and enjoy back home. We are still working our way through them! There are so many great craft breweries in Michigan, and we are already planning a visit back to Ann Arbor with more brewery stops. One more thing about Trader Joe’s – their dark chocolate peanut butter cups are amazing, so if you happen to find yourself in a Trader Joe’s, pick some up (for me too, please!). Before heading back into Canada, we stopped to refuel at Whole Foods and stock up on some more local craft brews. Not only do they have a great selection, but there was a bar in the grocery store with portions of sales from flights of a particular local beer going to the local SPCA. Try some beer for a local cause? Count us in! And while enjoying our flight, we caught the end of the Kitten Bowl and start of the Puppy Bowl – cutest thing ever!
We had an awesome time in Ann Arbor, and like I mentioned previously, we are already talking about another weekend trip back in the warmer months!
I’d love to hear about any recent trips you’ve made or if you’ve been to Ann Arbor before!
