Sunday Rituals & Quality Time.
For the last few Sundays, Ryan and I have sort of begun a new Sunday ritual. After or before any events or daily activities we have scheduled that day, we venture outside for a walk and explore Hamilton. These Sunday walks are the perfect opportunity to talk and catch up on everything during the past week or what is planned for the week ahead, as we only have Sundays off together. It has become something I look forward to all week and cherish very much. Not only are we spending some quality time together, we explore new places and get some exercise walking around the city. Hamilton can be quite hilly!
We begin our adventure by walking to one of the many awesome, local cafes. Our first Sunday we began this ritual, we headed over to the newest cafe in Hamilton, Durand Coffee. It was a chilly afternoon and the double chocolate cookie was fresh out of the oven – so delicious! I have since brought home cookies any time we stop in. Such a great atmosphere! Another favourite is Ark + Anchor. They have a wonderful space upstairs, which is perfect for knitting hang outs!
We then continue on, walking the streets of Hamilton and exploring historic sites such as the Whitehern Historic House and Garden behind city hall. There is so much history and beautiful architecture in Hamilton! The feature photo at the top of this post is from the tunnel at MacNab under the train tracks, so cool!
Sometimes we’ll stop for a pint at Mulberry, and other times we get a couple slices to share at Knead Pizza. It’s great to just sit and relax, especially after all the walking and most recently, the cooler weather too. Bring on the summer heat please! I’m looking forward to more patio weather When we are looking to change things up, we’ll hop on a SoBi bike.
We are gone for a few hours and the health app on our phones record how many steps we walked, our distance and flights of stairs climbed. This way when we spread out on the couch and watch Netflix after, all while enjoying take out or homemade tacos, I feel a lot less guilty because of all the walking and exercise from earlier. Bonus! I’m looking forward to continuing this new ritual and exploring other parts of this wonderful city.
Do you have a Sunday ritual? What activities do you like to do with your partner when have some quality time together? I’d love to hear about them!
