SELF CARE AFTER TRAVELLING

Tips For Self Care After Travel Or A Busy Schedule.

January and February were non-stop for me between our trip to Orlando, a weekend in Ann Arbor, a quick cottage getaway, a few local events, and finally, catching up on work. I’ve been feeling a little run down and tired, both physically and mentally. Do you have difficulty getting back into your routine after you’ve been travelling or your schedule has been go, go, go? Here are four things I’ve been doing for self care after a few hectic weeks.

Taking some much needed ‘me’ time – Since my time at home was limited for the last month and a bit, I haven’t had much time for myself and as an introvert, I truly need my alone time to regroup and reduce stress. So on those evenings where I don’t have something booked, I have penciled in time with myself. Lots of dog walks, knitting, netflix and tea have been much needed.

Get moving – I’ve spent a lot of time sitting in cars or on planes for long periods of time, amd sitting in waiting rooms. With some more time at home, I’m able to put on a Barre3 video (one of my favourite types of exercise), go for a long walk or roll out my yoga mat. Any of these options are a breath of fresh air and a great way to welcome the spring season. Warmer temperatures make going outdoors easier, especially with a little dog who isn’t a fan of below zero temps, ice or snow.

Eating clean – This has been a little more difficult, since we’ve been to a lot of events and dinners, but I, like many others, follow the 80/20 rule. During the week is my time to fill up on veggies – lots of salads with added proteins, like lentils, quinoa, beans and eggs. My favourite combination right now is kale, shredded beets, some type of grain – spelt pasta noodles or farro, with a little feta, walnuts, balsamic vinegar and olive oil. It’s so tasty cold or warm and very filling. I like to add a hard boiled egg for some protein. Spring cleaning has begun – This past weekend was my big cleaning day. Loads and loads of laundry, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and organizing. Now I’m just waiting for some warmer temps so I can open the windows and also tackle the outside. It feels so good to have a clean house and much easier to maintain. Now time to begin simplifying some areas like my closet and craft space with Danielle’s tips!

What do you do to get back on track and into a routine after a busy schedule or lots of travelling? I’d love to hear some of your tips!
